PSA rapid test for the early detection of prostate cancer
The CLEARTEST PSA is a semi-quantitative rapid test for the in vitro determination of prostate specific antigen (PSA) in human whole blood, serum or plasma.
The human prostate-specific antigen (PSA) is a glycoprotein that is mainly produced in the prostate gland of men. The classic examination of the prostate by palpation is supplemented by the determination of the PSA value in early detection. The normal PSA value in healthy men is in the range of 0.1 - 2.6 ng/ml.
Elevated serum PSA concentrations occur in patients with prostate cancer, benign prostatic hypertrophy or inflammatory situations (prostatitis) in the surrounding tissue. In healthy men, men with non-prostatic carcinomas, no significant changes in the PSA value can be detected. Thus, measurement of PSA levels can be a safe tool in monitoring patients with prostate cancer, providing evidence of the effectiveness of surgical or oncological therapies, and for early detection of prostate disease.
