mediware conical swabs are combination instruments for the collection of cytological smears from the cervix or the cervical canal.

In the area of the cervix, the conical swab has all the properties of a cytological brush, but the collection can be carried out almost painlessly and without bleeding. The swabs are not torn out of the tissue dressing, but only the loose cells on the cervix are stiffened with the foam cone and collected.

It is not necessary for the foam cone to penetrate the cervical canal! Unlike a spatula, the conical shape also makes it easy and safe to spread the cells on a slide. If it is necessary to remove cells from the cervical canal, the foam cone can be removed from the tip of the instrument and the cytology brush underneath used to remove the cells. the cytological brush underneath can be used to remove the cells. With this technique, penetration into the cervical canal is also possible. mediware conical swabs are also suitable for liquid-based cytology. To prepare the cell suspension, the conical swab is rinsed in the liquid by rotating it rapidly and applying slight pressure before removal, on the inner wall of the tube.
