Hotgen Corona Antigen Self-Test for Lay Persons.
The Hotgen Corona Antigen Self-Test is designed for use by laypersons and received its special approval as a layperson's test from the Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices (BfArM) in March 2021. It is thus freely available on the market and can be purchased by both private individuals and healthcare professionals.
Corona self-test with nasal sample swab
The Hotgen test is a high-quality Corona antigen self-test for the qualitative detection of SARS-CoV-2 nucleocapsid antigens in the anterior nasal cavity. It is based on the lateral flow immunoassay method, which uses antibodies to detect specific antigens in the sample swab.
The Hotgen self-test, unlike an antibody test, is used to directly detect an infection. This means that if the virus replicates in the front of the nose at the beginning of an infection, it can already be detected, even if no symptoms have occurred yet. This means that the test can be used reliably for regular checks at work or before visits to the supermarket or family.
