The CLEARTEST light® Albu-Mic rapid test is a rapid chromatographic immunoassay for the qualitative detection of microalbumin in human urine. The detection limit is 20 µg/ml.
The test is intended for professional in vitro diagnostic use only.
The persistent occurrence of small amounts of albumin in urine (microalbuminuria) can be the first indicator of renal dysfunction. In diabetics, positive results can be the first indication of diabetic nephropathy. If therapy is not given, the amount of albumin released increases (macroalbuminuria) and renal insufficiency develops. In type 2 diabetes, early diagnosis and treatment of diabetic nephropathy is particularly important. Albuminuria is not only the earliest manifestation of nephropathy, but also a marker for increased risk of cardiovascular disease in type 2 diabetes. Under normal physiological conditions, small amounts of albumin are glomerularly filtered and tubularly reabsorbed. The excretion of 20 μg/ml to 200 μg/ml albumin in the urine is called microalbuminuria. Causes of albuminuria may include renal dysfunction, physical exertion, urinary tract infections, hypertension, heart failure and surgery.
